I have just received summon for a jury duty. What should I do?

- I am not US citizen yet
- I no longer live in the area for which I received the summons, in fact I am 300 miles away

What could have caused this? Anyone ever received this while LPR?

Tell them what you said here, that you are an LPR and you moved.

If you still live in the same state, being 300 miles away won't necessarily get you out of jury duty; they can just assign you to a case closer to where you live.

I got one when I had a work visa, years before I became an LPR.

Just write that you're not a US citizen, and include a copy of your green card. Don't they have an option on the reply form "I am not a US citizen"?

Thank you!

I just called them, and explained I was not USC. Did not send anything as they did not request it when I asked.

Hope I am alright ;-)

The jury duty letter didn't come with a reply form that you should send to indicate whether you're able to serve or why you can't serve?

It came. However, I have just an electronic copy of it from my old address. I am out of state living.

If I wanted to respond, my friends would have to resend it to me and then I would have to send it to the court. As I said, I called there and they told me that this way everything is fine.

You think I should still try to send them a paper response?

Did you register to vote? If you did then that's why.

I got a jury duty letter as well while I was still a GC holder. They must have gotten my info from DMV I assume.

There was a check-box on the letter indicating that you are exempt if you are not a citizen. I checked that and sent the letter back.

I wouldn't trust that the person on the phone took care of it. But at least if they didn't, they'll eventually send you another letter and you should definitely respond to that.
