Got iEAD in San Jose today 05/12/03

Hi all,

I got iEAD in San jose today showing, went there at 4.30am twety people before me(not bad considering last year around 80) My # was 21, but there only one window was open till 8.45am so was moving at snails pace after that they opened 4 more then things started moving so called us at 9.30 and asked for EAD receipt i showed them cashed check they said they want receipt which I had got in April I showed them that, issued iEAD.

They wrote no Fee on applicationa asked me to hand it to cashier even if we dont pay it took another 30 miutes to be called for photos, and in five minutes after photos for the card out by 10.20 am.

They asked us to return old EAD. iEAD valid for 240 days.

Overall it was good except for the delay with only one window open.

Got iEAD 05/12/03 (on second try)

Mine was not a straight forward luck!!.

I was at INS Office by 5.30am and went inside to the token window. There I showed the cancelled checks, BCIS web-site case status page and explained that I didnot receive the receipt. (I didnot want to show the receipt which I received on April 17th with RD as Feb 7th and ND as April 16th). Officer at that window refused to give me a token and asked me to come back after receiving the receipt.

So, I went back frustrated. But decided to take a chance and stood in the line again.

When I came near the token window, there was different officer and explained the same. He checked the date on the Case Status print out and noted it's more than 90 days. He gave a token.
So far so good.

Waited till my number was called around 1:45 pm. At the window, Officer looked at the papers and wanted to check with her supervisor. Supervisor looked at their system for my WAC# and said it is OK to give iEAD. So, that's it. By 2 pm, gave the documents at the Cashier for background check and by 2:45pm, was called for EAD photo and got the iEAD valid for 8 months.

Papers I took:
a) New I765 form, b). copy of I485 receipt , c). copy of I140, d). Original EAD card, e). Cancelled check photocopy. Officer took from a thru d.

RM_CSC, did you show your EAD receipt at the first counter (token window)?. What did the officer say?.

the officer at front desk did not look at my EAD receipts, but did ask for 485 and 140 too, he was very specific aboout it.

I am in a similar situation and need to go for iEAD next week. Do I need to pay any fee for this. Other than the documents mentioned above, is there anything else I should carry just in case.

Has anyone gotten iEADs before the 90 days are over? Please help. My RD is April 20 and I really meed to et the iEAD. Please help!!

In my case they counted 90 days and then issued iEAD so I dont know if they really issue iEAD before 90 days. In San Francisco they wont we have seen some posts.

San Jose no similar post, try it out and good luck.

I applied for EAD renewal 160 days prior to the expiration of current EAD. I think I have to read this thread when I approach my EAD expiration date to goto San Jose office...

You can approach INS for iEAD before u r current EAD expires and 90 days after filing the EAD pending.

But since u filed 160 days early u can go anywhere between 91 and 160 days to get it, i was in similar situation like u, i went on 91 st day to get it instead wait till my current EAD expired the reason for that is if for some reason there is a RFE on either EAD applicaiton or 485 application they will not issue iEAD untill they receive the RESPONSE to RFE and the system is updated. so it is better to get it soon since it is valid for 240 days so incase of RFE or any issues you can resolve them in 240 days.

You can make your own decision.
