As you might be aware, for obtaining the IRS Stimulus package one should have SSN. If applying married filing jointly, then both must have SSNs to get the stimulus payment.

In my case, as I haven't had the corrected GC for my son and hence no SSN and I thought I missed the $300! But, I can still have that money..

Snippet from http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=179211,00.html :

Not eligible at the current time? If you're not eligible this year but you become eligible next year, you can claim the economic stimulus payment next year on your 2008 tax return.

So there is a whole year in front of us to get the GCs/EADs and then to get SSNs to get the Stimulus payment!

You don't need an SSN to get the stimulus payment in 2009, if filing for it as part of your 2008 return.

I am talking about Stimulus that you receive now in May, 2008. Stimulus is given to those who have SSNs when filing taxesvby 15th April 2008 for the Tax Year 2007. As one of my sons doesn't have SSN and I filed the returns with his ITIN and felt bad that I missed $300 for him.

But recently get to know that, I can still get the 2008 stimulus for my son (assuming his I-90 will be processed and gets his GC so that gets his SSN). In the same IRS link, earlier they mentioned to file an amendment and wait for 6 to 8 weeks, to get the stimulus payment. Now they made it simple to claim that while filing 2008 returns.

BTW, stimulus is one time for this year only. Unless same crazy idea is followed year after year by the new government. Personally, I am dead against this idea as I don't believe this could raise (US) economy. Nevertheless, I don't want to miss the free money.
