Got EAD, how to get Social Security Number

I just got my EAD card, till now I was unemployed & had a ITIN number. How do I get the Social Security number, so that I can apply for the jobs.

Simple

Go to your local SSA office, fill out a new application form
show your EAD and you will get a number in a weeks time.
Your ITIN will be automatically invalidated once you get an SSN.

Does this happen automatically? or one has to file something with IRS?

No, you need to send a copy of the letter that the IRS sent you with the ITIN and a copy of the SSN card to the IRS so that they can sync up the two numbers.
 
Signature card required for EAD?

Do you need to send the signature card ( a card with a blue box) along with the form I-765 when applying for EAD? I was told that this was required before but not any more. Has anybody filed for EAD recently without the signature card?
 
I sent the signature card along with my application...

I filed in Dec 01 , my lawyer has sent me a signature card that I filled and attached with the application , it was one signature card though. I filed 485/AP/EAD .
 
how to get SSN after EAD

What i did was , took the EAD card and passport to the SSA office , and they feed in my data and will mail me the SSN number within 7-10 working days !! Lets see how soon i get it .
