Got a ticket - pls help

I have got a ticket for "Improper Passing" and have to pay $82 in fine.
I am having a pending I-485 and I am concerned, it should not pose any problems.

I know I was driving properly but I am concerned to fight my case.

Do you guys think, this may cause any problems?

What do you guys suggest. Should I pay the fine and hope for the best?

DON'T WORRY.

I had a Speeding ticket in Jan 2004 , Got approved without any problem in JULY 2004. :) :)

plead guilty by paying the ticket or plead not guilty and go to court... (maybe you can get a break on the amount you pay) either way moving violation/ticket will only cause your insurance premiums to go higher... Nothing to do with I-485...

Its trouble only if you don't pay or show up and I hope thats' not part of your plan.

Also, getting a ticket is only a violation... Only a misdeamor or a felony can effect I-485.

Take it easy. I had more than one ticket (speeding, not stopping at stop sign, parking at restricted area etc.) during my 485 pending and got approved in july '04 with out any problem.

For the ticket, do what Xanasthos suggested

Do you think misdemeanor will affect 485? I have got a court date and was hoping to fight. I accidentally hit a car when I was backing and didn't realise it till the officer appeared before my house. The charge is hit and run property damage. I was hoping so far that traffic misdemeanor will not affect the process. What would you gurus suggest? Now, I am starting to get concerned.

My RD is Dec 2003.
 
Amazing how the officer could locate your house, I guess there was a witness who saw you hit the other car ?

1) Fight it. Ask for a deal to eliminate the charge and reduce it to an accident. Your good history might work in your favor for that purpose.
2) Call the person whose car you dinged and plead with him also to get the charge dropped.

Hit and Run charges are very serious offences in some states (don't know yours). Conviction can result in anything from lic. suspension, fines and jail time depending on state precedence.

Regardless of your status (485, perm or us citizen), a misdemeanor on record is not good.
 
There were some witnesses in the scene. Had I known that I had hit, I would have definitely stopped.. Anyway, I am planning to fight and reduce it to an accident. I spoke to the lawyer (not the immigration one) and he says it's a minor charge since it's just property damage. Do you think talking to the person might help at this stage?
 
Stop this nonsense

Behave like grown ups. If a driving ticket can effect your 485 than nobody will be driving thier cars till the GC is approved.
 
Its not just a driving violation ticket. Its a Hit and Run Charge on the ticket that is important. Hit and Run is a serious thing.

Speeding for instance, is just a violation and is different from a ticket with a charge of Hit and Run that can be a possible misdeameanor.

Talking to the other person may help, No harm in Trying.

9. Felony etc: If you have provided incorrect information. Especially if you commit a mis-demeanor after you filed 485. Provide explanation. Better avoid speeding tickets and if you get it, pay fine or take defensive driving classes to get them dismissed. If you have a 485 pending, don't drink and drive for 2 years. If you do, don't get caught.

If it happened after filing I-485 I don't think it will be an issue. In the worst case, USCIS will call for an interview and try to measure the magnitude of misdaeminor. Normally they will ask you to take police report + court order in interview. If you are honest and clearly explain the situation in interview, I don't think it will be an issue at all.

P.S. Don't forget to mention it when apply for citizenship (N-400). If you don't, it could be a major issue. But citizenship is long way. Relax now. Your GC will be fine.
 
I got the exact same ticket (Improper passing) for cutting off an Police officer may be after couple of months I filed for 485. I went to court paid $115 and had my offence changed so that I could avoid points on my driving record because I already have points on my driving record.

I got my approval this month withour any RFE so relax and pay the money.
