RE: Got I-485 - what next
My understanding is that I-485 granting gives you basically LPR status. However for issuance of your green card, you will have to make an appointment with your local service center (through info-pass) to be fingerprinted, etc. After your appointment, you will likely have to wait some time to get the actual card since the INS is so behind.
If your I-485 is granted, it automatically cancels your visa - so either get advance parole before you travel or get the local service center to stamp your passport when you go for your appointment. If you don't have one of these two things and you leave the country, you may not be able to re-enter when you return.
