Got only 4 month duration on doing H1 transfer :(

I was working with company X on H1 which was valid from Aug 2008 to Aug 2011. Then recently in Jan 2009 I transferred my H1 to company Y which was approved in 15 days but the duration is only till Apr 2009! Both X and Y are consultant companies.

Now I am feeling very bad about the transfer thing because I lost my H1 duration. The lawyer is saying that we had to mention the current duration of your project to USCIS with the end client which is Apr 30, 2009. Lawyer is also saying that they will now file for H1 extension soon. But I am wondering why did they have to mention my project end date with client in the first place ?

What is the option for me now ?

Thanks,
Ankur

It seems to me Lawyer mistake. Employer/lawyer got LCA till Apr 2009 OR lawyer asked H1 till April 2009. I don’t think employer played a role because employer again has to pay the USCIS and lawyer fee for H1 extension. I don’t think you have good lawyer.

Thanks for your response ginnu. U see now I have to work with the lawyer and I think it would be wise to not annoy her. She said she is going to find out why they issued H1 only for 3 months and will try to get it extended. She will also file an extension request if needed. I am just hoping for the best.

Thanks,
