so far most of the threads here are on a desolate side. everyone is worried about something, scared by the Immigration officers and rules and laws and I94s and 485s,131s and all sorts of things. lets have a happy exchange here. we could tell one another, and learn frome each other, about good things related to being an asylee. to start:
i did not have to go back to my country and serve the army in a war nor can I, as a statless person, be drafted into any army should a major world conflict arise. i also am able to travel internationally and work anywhere in the United States. I can have regular IDs and a non restricted Social Security card and do not have to renew the Employment Authorization Card every year any more. Hoping that 99.9% of asylees do get adjusted to residency for real I can somewhat quitely enjoy what I have now and use every opportunity to be as happy as possible even though I am under asylum. whenever I think of asylum cap I wake up a silent hope within me that such tremendously wrong issue will soon be put out of existence.and that hope feels good and healthy. what are you happy about?

A minor correction--you can be drafted involuntarily into the US armed forces should the need ever arise.

But yes most of asylees and refugees are extremely grateful for the precious opportunity to start anew here.

I doubt that if you are above 26 or a female u could be drafted.
Why does the asylum approval letter requires only MALE asylees BELOW 26 to register for selective services?

Under current law only men under 26 are required to register with the SSS but Congress could of course change that at any time.

But my point was that though not citizens asylees have the legal oligation to fight for the United States in the event of a national emergency.

bUT THEN

bUT an asylee Status can be terminated anytime the INS feel like it due to changes in your Country, so it is advisable to ADJUST YOUR STATUS(AOS)..

I really feel very happy to be here. Here I can live work and live witout constant fear of being treated as a slave. If there is a national emergency I will go and fight for this great country that one day I hoope I will call my HOMELAND. I am under 25 and I registered with Selective Service a couple of weeks after I was granted asylum. I would better die for this country that for the country were my life was a nightmare. I am not kidding.

Even though I am thankful to this country, I would prefer to stay alive.

I would do my best for this country. Right now I pay lots of taxes (the best I can do for this moment :) )

Just make sure you do not go to Iraq. They say it is really ugly over there, and you do not want to die fighting a racist war for the rich

You said "anytime" - I don't think so; they can revoke Asylum during this given one year when you're in awaiting period to adjust.

Usually they don't revoke asylum because conditions at home country changed. It's a rear case even though it's legally possible. They might revoke it for some illegal activity (crimes and stuff).

But what if they interview u before adjusting status and by that time the situation in ur country has changed considerably? Why would u still be afraid to come back home if there is no fear of presecution? Does that mean that u'll never get ur Green Card remaining asylee all ur life?

right on my point

This INS are crazy though ..first thing they want ASYLEE wait for 12 years to get the GC , i know when you adjust there is no more problem..... NoW I dont know if i want to wait for 12 years for my GC... this asylum thing has a bad thing attached to it..

I understand that they can send us home but it's a very rear practice. They understand that after so many years there are some ties established to this country (in my case my kid, house, all kind of debts (loans and staff). It's my opinion though. I could be wrong.

Well, first learn to spell. It is rare not rear. :)
But you are right. They rarely deport asylees even when conditions improve unless the person in question has engaged in criminal activities, terrorism and the like. Also people who falsely obtained asylum in the first place can be kicked out at any time.

Do not spend too much time offline with Shamshon. It is not good for you, trust me. :D

I don't communicate with anybody offline. I don't divide people according to their religion or point of view like some members of this forum do. Fake people should not get asylum in a first place. I'm assuming that it's really hard for INS to find out if asylee is fake after he was granted that status which means INS believed him in a first place.
