Guys, I got the notice of oath!!!
I was so worried when the INS officer told me that my application could not approved. To whoever is suffering from FBI name check: don't worry too much about it. I think this is just the process.
I appreciate all the replies to my questions. I really appreciate that.
Good luck to you all!!!

Time frame:
receipt date: March 14, 2004
FP date: middle of May
Interview: 7/28/2004, was told that the application could not be approved for the FBI check.
Received the notice: Today!!!! 9/2/2004
Oath Date: 9/23/04

Congrats!
I am still waiting for mine...I have the same situation: the name clearance with FBI

Where did you apply and interview?

Wow that was real quick. I still dont understand the FBI. When I spoke to an analyst there, she made is seem like they worked on cases by the date they were received and yet my fiance's case is still pending. She said they werent even close to cases received on March 2003. Very confusing.

mfar, I filed my application in Nebraska and am living in Chicago, Illinois.

dsfgh100, thank you, and yeah, I will be more responsible. :-) Hopefully, that does not mean that I gotta stop drinking beer! lol

MazzyStar, well, from my experience, I could tell that INS sometimes has an interview with the applicant even before they process the application. That's what happened to me. I had an interview on July 28, and on the same day, I checked the processing date of Chicago district, which was December 2003. Even INS official seemed a little bit confused that I got an interview even before the processing my application.

Bottom line is, you gotta check the processing date first before worrying about the FBI name check. Maybe, your file was not even processed.

joef you blabbering Joker. Shouldnt your signature read....

Ignore all posts from joef, rahul, johnedwards2012, jharkhandi, and several other people who abuse this forum for political propaganda and mudslinging.
In addition, the few times these people give immigration "advice", it is usually wrong and dangerous. They even claim that one of the most respected immigration lawyers is always right, in contradiction to that lawyer's own disclaimer that her informaiton might be incorrect or out dated.

Read this post for an example of good advice on this board...

INS said all they were waiting for was the name check to clear, then they would schedule the oath. Thats all we're waiting for.

Twinkle twinkle MazzyStar. In case you did not know... Name check delays is some times an excuse for other problems in applications. Dont be single-tracked on name check.

Live happy.

The N-400 is sent to the service center having jurisdiction over your place of residence. For Illinois, the service center is NSC, in Lincoln, NE. Later on, after some processing, the SC sends the application to the appropriate district office, where the rest of the processing takes place, and where the interview and oath are.

One small correction to what is otherwise right information (wowzie!) posted by JoeF. You do not have to send N-400 to service center. If you would like to save the mailing charges, you could drop it off at the District office, and they will send it to SC.

Of course, as was to be expected, this "advice" is wrong.
N-400s are not accepted at DOs. See, e.g., the list of accepted applications at the SF DO:
http://uscis.gov/graphics/fieldoffices/sanfran/SFR_Apps.pdf

Also, they clearly mention the address to be mailed to:
For example, PA residents need to mail to:

http://uscis.gov/graphics/exec/natz/natzmap.asp?state=38

Also, if they do accept application, why would anybody go to district office to drop it off. During day time you will have to pay parking (that defeats the purpose), and as most, if not all, USCIS offices are in downtown, not safe after dark, not to mention the gas money, time and effort. If you do drop if off, you are not sure, when the application would be sent to service center with a good possibility of the application being misplaced.

All this for 5 bucks, not worth it!!!

Woodhead Dude! This is another one of your dangerous advice. N-400 applications MUST be sent to the SVCs. The DOs are not going to mail them for you...as it is they are swamped with workload. When will u learn??

That is what happens when morons like Rahul, Hopeless and phyllydike talk about things they have no expertise in.

Has one of you tried submitting N-400 at the local DO? I guess not. There are many people who walk into DO and submit their N-400. Happens every day.

I do not expect those geek morons to know this because their knowledge is limited to web sites. They do not have the expertise like I do, in knowing about things that happen at DO. Go do programming, boys. Leave immigration advice to experts like me.

When I come back with URL and prove this idiot has always been wrong, he talks more nonsense. If you were to pass me on the street, I would slap you silly...
