sounds like good news, but maybe not ?!?!

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/15/us/15immig.html

"Chris Rhatigan, a spokeswoman for the agency, said officials there expected to complete by Sept. 30 all the naturalization applications received last June and more than half from July, the peak months of the surge"

interesting, does that mean every application, so no one with a PD prior to June 07 will remain stuck in name check?

Honestly, if you ask me, I'll say that it's actually quite disturbing. Why? Think about it... by Sept 30, 2008... about 6 months from now... they'll cover JUST the June/July 2007 surge applications?? That's SLOW!!

I'm glad they 'have' a plan 'in place'... but the proposed speed does not impress me. But maybe they are not trying to impress anyone...

Many post-July - Aug/Sept filers are already getting interview calls.

We should take such interviews and statements with a dose of skepticism. That official statement must have been in response to the recent concerns by applicants about not being able to vote in Nov 08 due to the backlog from June/July 07. SO, the Govt is delivering the bare minimum: they will adjudicate the surge cases before the elections. That's all they are 'committing'.

I sure hope so

My PD is 5/31 and received a response to my status inquiry not to bother them again for another 6 months :-(

Load of BS.

If you read this carefully, then it means that those who submitted before the surge are actually in the 16 month frame, instead of the 6-7 month.

Why would someone need to wait more then a year, if he/she submitted before the spike?

American journalists are just plain dumb.

ya for ppl who filed back last June, it will be 16months for them by Sept 30 :D

Isn't what USCIS originally projected?? And they call that improvement and commitment???

It sounds like saying the same thing in an indirect and sugar-coated way!!!

haha I think they postulate that many of us cannot count lol:eek:

This memo does no good to people who are stuck in Name Check process... I guess they really don't care about those 1% people.

unfortunately you are right Ghantabro

Hi,

Unfortunately you are right. This does not apply to those who are in name check. They are not covered in this. USCIS will do their job,,it is the other agency that needs to respond to them with name check results.

We are in for long wait name check people

Regards

I spoke to a lady who handles immigration legislative issues for one of the senators from my state. She was very quick to point out that it is only 1% who are stuck in the name check. THen I asked her if the 1% are not humans (or second class applications) such that they are left out in the very nice looking 6 months timeline and she kept mute. Even congress men/women are buying into the USCIS "official" statements. We will see what comes out of the tuesday hearing.
If nothing good comes out or if the USCIS decides to stall by filing an appeal, I say to everyone one who has waited for more than 18 months to file a WOM. I intend to file mine as soon as it turns 18 months. I am considering filing it sooner.

I will definitely file my WOM in April... in the process of asking for FOIPA, going for Infopass, Asking to expedite, writing letters .... and then WOM in April ... everyone stuck in Name Check should consider WOM. This site can help us do everything for that.
