Ginnu -please help, GC and Passport Renewal

I have the GC stamped on my passport. GC stamping is valid till FEB 2006.

I gave my passport for renewal at the Indian Consulate in Chicago on 4/15/05. I have to suddenly make a trip overseas.

My old passport expires on 12/2005. I have not got the new passport yet.
Will the GC on the old passport still be valid.

USCIS folks are saying that valid-visas on Old Passports are valid but GC stamping on Old passport is not valid. They are asking me to get the GC stamping on the new passport. I do not have sufficient time to get this done.

Ginnu and Gurus - any help would be greatly appreciated.

----- the stamp on old passport is VALID till FEB 2006. you should keep old expired passport and new passport attached

--- who is saying that? did you talk to 1-800 or went to local USCIS??
They are asking me to get the GC stamping on the new passport. I do not have sufficient time to get this done.
