Getting Non-availability Certificate from Chennai

Just wondering if anyone has any experience getting Non-availability certificate in lieu of the birth certificate. We are exploring this with the Chennai Municipal Corporation for my mom (born in 1944). I read in one of the threads that you could apply for this in the Indian Consulate in the US and upon inquiring the local indian consulate, it does seem like they would entertain the request. A couple of questions:
- Any experience with the Chennai Municipal Corporation in getting this.? Any tricks that will help expedite the process.?
- Will the certificate from the Indian Consulate do or is it better to get it from Chennai Municipal Corporation somehow?

Thanks in advance.

Hey, you should check with YourManInIndia.com, they should able to help you with nonavailability, they have an option to expedite it, will charge some fees that is all. For your info they will not accept Consulate issued certificate. Try to get couple of affidavits from older relatives.

You could try yourmaninindia.com. They got mine in Chennai for a 1948 birth and were pretty reasonable. Interestingly though, they could not arrange for a Delhi one for 1944: the explanation given was that they may not be able to help for dates prior to 1947 (whether this applied only to Delhi, I am not sure). For the 1944 one, I then used saharacarehouse.com (look under utility services). They are more expensive but got the job done without fuss. Give yourself about a month in the normal course. Epeditious issuance is possible though.
