I got married to my Brazilian wife in Brazil on 8-25-05. When we went down to the consulate in Recife, we got the shock of our lives. They no longer process I-130 in Brazil. We were unaware of the changes that occurred the previous month in which they no longer accept these applications, unless I am a resident. I live in the US and visit her when I can.
We thought we were going to have to wait 3 months for her to get here. It has been 7 months, and we finally got approved, and I just sent in the $70 for the I-864 form. (Financial Support)
I also got a form regarding where to mail future corespondence. The letter recommended that it get mailed to me. I need to email the form and have her sign it. I am assuming that it the best way to acomplish this.
I do not forsee any problems, but am more concerned with how much longer we will have to wait until she can come to the US and live with me. (Basically the purpose of marriage)
Is there anything we can do to hurry this up? Is there anything I need to watch out for?
One of her friends said that in her interview, she was asked if her husband had sent her money. I have send much money to my wife. Is this going to be a problem?
Thanks for all your help. This is a great forum. I have been reading it for weeks. This is much more complicated than I thought it would be. I wish it was much easier.
