Getting married while N400 pending

I applied for citizenship December of 2006. Still have not gotten my interview letter, so I am assuming it's stuck in name check. I will deal with that later.

A more pressing issue is, at the time of the N400 filing, I was not married, so obviously left that section blank. But I really would like to, and am planning on doing so before the end of the year to my fiancee. Of course, my name check may still be pending at that time.

So, will this cause any issues with the N400 filing? My fiancee has nothing to do with my citizenship, I am doing the GC (acquired before I even met her) and 5 year route.

Nothing for you to worry about. If you are married by the time you have your interview, just update your N-400. If will not (should not) affect your eligibility however. Good luck on both fronts!!!

Thanks for the response. How would I update my N400 while it is still pending? Do you mean tell the official during the interview?

yup, when you attend the interview advise the IO that your marriage status has changed and provide enough evidence to show that. He will then update the N-400 form and ask you to sign.

this applies to any finger check's you may have made or any other status changes, like a trip's outside of USA etc.

The provide enough evidence probably means to bring your marriage certificate ;) If you get married abroad you might need a certified translation.

It should not affect your case but the qn is what is the status of the person you are marrying? If she is a foreign citizen and living abroad, it may be easier for her to move to the US if you get married after citizenship.

Most important, make sure you don't take your fiancee's last name in your marriage, no matter what! USCIS would gladly send you on the second round of name check, right upon finishing the 'long distance' first one. :p

Thank you for the responses.

No problems in any of the above. My fiance is a USA born and raised citizen, and she will be taking my name, not the other way around.:)
