Getting I-551 stamp (through InfoPass appointment) for misplaced GC.

Does anyone has experience or tried recently with Newark district office to get the temporary I-551?

My relative got yellow letter(looks like standard check box with yellow letter for N-400 pre-interview notification) and since she is old, she never had or got state issued ID (DL or Non-driver). Issue now is she has misplaced the green card, so in dilemma as to whether to make InfoPass and try to get the I-551 stamp or just goto interview without ID. I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions/thoughts.

She won't get the stamp unless she applies for a new one and shows the receipt. That's the problem. When would her GC have expired?

She ought to file a police report. How old is she? I'm not sure, but I suppose a passport is enough if someone is over a certain age (for an interview when the GC has been lost). If not, she can still apply for a state ID and hopefully get it before the interview.

She has the police report and she is 59. Interview is after 2 weeks. Local MVC didn't give the ID, because they have 6 points requirement. If you don't have GC or I-551 stamp they can't issue the ID. Lost GC was expiring in 2019.

Is it worth taking a chance and go to Local district office and take try? Is there any ill effect on N-400 Interview for trying to get I-551 stamp, since it is same office? Thanks again!

It won't have a negative impact on the N400. So the options she has are 1. apply for a replacement GC and 2. go to the interview without it and explain that she doens't want a new one because she hopes to get citizenship and it would be a waste of money. I would go for 2. She can try asking for the I551 stamp for this reason, but there's no guarantee she'll get it. Hopefully she has a copy at least.
