Getting Green Card and then getting a job outside the US

I am a US citizen and sponsored my brother for green card. He just had the interview and has been granted the immigrant visa, and needs to come to US within 6 months. In the meantime he has just recently got a good job offer in middle east with a 2 year contract. With the current situation, jobs might be hard to find in USA. What is the impact on the green card if a) he comes to USA first, and stays a month or so, and then takes up the job in middle east. I assume he will either have to come back within a year, or get a re-entry permit before he leaves for the new job.
Will his visa be in jeopardy because he takes up the job outside?
What if his wife stays part time in US and part time in middle east, and takes up a job when she is here?
Will it be beneficial to prove intent, if he pays US taxes on his foreign income? He may or may not be covered by the tax exclusion for working abroad.
Thanks.

he CAN NOT take up a job outside of the USA, that would be given up his residency.

Unless this is a USA company that sends him abroad, your brother needs to pick one, either live in the USA or work in the Middle East... He CAN NOT have both.

I know of a senior citizen lady from the time she got her GC she would stay in the US 6 months and 6 months in India, she was not at all interested in the US.. she did this till she got her citizenship now she permenatly stays in India, the reason she got her citizenship was to petition for her kids, the challenges people go through to get their family here.

why dont you tell him that he can apply for a reentry permit, pay his taxes on foreign income and come back every 6 months (3 times) or start over residency after 2 years outside?

Because he can not...?

Taking up a job abroad = giving up his permanent residency... does not matter that he has a re-entry permit...

Coming for a "visit" every 6 months (when you are supposed to be living in the USA) is not going to cut it either... you need to have your permanent residence in the USA.

Look at the Welcome Guide for New Residents... it states so...

The only way you can work abroad is IF a USA company sends you and it meets all the requirements. Not to go work for some random Middle East company.

What exactly was wrong with my post?

Praetorian, please help me find the 'welcome guide' that you speak of. I should probably find the information there. It appears from your post that it is not legal to take up a job outside US unless you are sent there by a company that you work for in the US. I know of people who continued to work in their country of origin for a little time after they get GC, before they finally move to US. I thought that was risky (because they may not get re entry permit at any time), but legal.
