Getting GC is not the only achievement in life

I have observed that some people in this forum are rather over reacting for getting the green card, creating an unnecessary hype, euphoria and tension to other junior members. Some people go the extent of treating this occassion ( getting a GC) as an extraordinary and the most important event in their life which is totally absurd, ridiculous and preposterous. I personally feel that getting a greencard does not change your life in any way except that you can do any kind of menial job for getting dollars and to survive or to pay back home mortgages ( which we normally do not like to in our home country). There are so many things in life other than getting GC which are more memorable and give immense satisfaction to us mentally. Some of them are passing out degree/pg degree, marriage, giving away the first months earnings to our parents, having a first baby, watching our kids grow until they are 6 years to name a few. I do agree that all of us take pains to get the GC but my only request is NOT to give too much importance and priority than it desreves. I am from India and at the present moment, with the money we earn here over a period of time, we can lead a very high standard of living in India with most of the comforts available. There are many young people whose intention is to stay here for a few years, make money and go back home for good. Please DO NOT spoil their minds or influence their thoughts with this hype and false propaganda that the only and the greatest achievement in one's life is getting a GC.

I hope readers will take my words in good spirit.

Everything in life depends on the context.

In an Immigration forum, getting a GC is probably the highest achievement (and so the biggest reason to celebrate)

In an Gradschool/Biz school forum, getting into the school of choice is the biggest achievement.

So, I suggest if you don't care about GC, pls ignore the messages posted by avid GC seekers.

At the end of the day, You get tensed or worried only if you want to!

Just a point of view. (I am not trying to belittle your opinion)

A relief not an achievement

Several people go through different modes of stress during GC process depending on their individual circumstances. Once the approval comes through there is an enormous amount of stress release which gives a feeling having achieved something in life. However, it is the stress release which makes people celebrate.

Before I140 approval I was under all sorts of stress with these 1) being at mercy with 'IT middle men', 2) family on vacation with AP when I140 had a difficult RFE, 3) having to make arrangements for family to get the H1 stamping from Australia by making a special trip from India, 4) if GC fails then think of packing and going back to Australia.

Once the I140 came I celebrated not because I got closer to GC but getting out of uncertainty. Even after GC Life continues as usual in terms of looking for projects. I am sure all members on this forum understand.

I view GC as a passport to freelife , one which allow me to do whatever in the country i choosed to live not only some boring IT job !

IMHO , GC is nothing if you are still going to work for the same company and satisfied with the bi monthly checks ! - But its valuble for some souls who think BIG , say like starting a company (not necessarily the usual consulting bodyshops !)

Great asrivang!

That's Great !

You hit the nail on the head on GC ! Hope everyone realize your key points.

Right about the feeling of accomplishment or achievement.
However, as liljoe pointed out, this being GC forum people xpress their happiness at getting this GC. Most people in this forum are happy at "getting" and also, ina way "achieving" by going thru tough times such as adjusting their life, ambitions, goals, outlook. But this is by no means the end to any means, rather it might be ONE of the means to an end.

absolutely !!

These damned USCIS people have made it seem like some big achivement, which it is definitely not. Thanks to their horrible delays. If they were approving it in 6 months, no one would have posted an elated message

At most if we don't get it ? What ? - We just go back to our countries, which too is not a bad option ;-)

Always, everything happens for the best

Keep up the open discussion spirit, its great !

I totally disagree.

I don't see anything wrong in expressing their happiness and relief
on getting their approval.

if people have other high priority things in their lives, then
they don't even bother coming to this site,

I think, this forum (site) is for those, whose highest priority is getting their
gc, it helps them in their lives in many ways,

agian, it boils down to your perception

I have been in gthis forum for a while.

But in my observation no one said that it is an achievement. But it is a big relief for the people who stayed in US for a while with lot of uncetainity.

When some one got a big relief in life, there are several ways to express their relief/happiness.

I too feel happy about reading such messages, since some one among our community got big relief (and freedom) in their life.

So, I personally feel that there is nothing wrong in posting such messages.

Please don't think that I am contradicting your opinions.

Yes, I agree ., but every thing depends on the priority one give at one time of life.,
for some it is the greatest relief in the life for settlement here .,

There are many young people whose intention is to stay here for a few years, make money and go back home for good. Please DO NOT spoil their minds or influence their thoughts with this hype and false propaganda that the only and the greatest achievement in one's life is getting a GC

No one spoils others mind ., There are a lot of things -- GOOD and BAD floating around the surroundings it is you and your mind to decide WHAT TO TAKE!!

asrivang is very right.

guys here are so short sighted, they dont think anything beyond gc. i have seen our counterparts in india have the same quality of life as ours or even better. so having GC is not a great thing at all.

I think having GC is really helpful in lots of different ways if you are planning to stay in US for longer duration as it will help you to make money what you deserve and you don't have to pay two third of your salary to middle mans in IT and also it will help you alot mentally in deciding lot of factors in life for example you don't have to worry about VISAs when you travel, you don't have to worry about extending H1's every one year and wait for CIS mercy to approve your H1s and so many other things in life which will create alot of mental strain.

Again it all depends on individual circumstances and I think this forum is to share ones experience in getting GC and it is really a big relief once you get your GC and I don't see any reason not to celebrate on a big way!!!!!!
