Getting a job

My fiance just came here on the k1 fiance visa from China. He just applied for his social security number. What else does he need to do to be able to get a job before we get married?

Unless your fiance recieved a temporary EAD stamp at their point of entry into the States (I think only JFK gives this stamp out routinely), then they will have to wait until you are married, and then apply for the EAD during the adjustment of status application.

Actually all K-1s are authorised for work. JFK is (used to be at least) the only POE that gives proof of that work authorization.

Thats why I was advising the OP that unless the K1 holder has the stamp in their passport, then they would have to wait until they obtain their EAD through AOS as very few employers would consider a K1 to work for them without that proof that they are eligible to work.
JFK is the only POE that routinely gives out the EAD stamp, however there are other POEs that do give it, though just not as frequently. I have known people who have recieved it at Atlanta and Philly (airports)...and the land borders have been known to give it out also.

So there is really no possible way to get him a job before we get married? I looked on his passport and he doesn't have a stamp that says anything about authorization to work.
