Hi there,

If a H1-B visa holder leaves the country (more or less permanently), how can he/she get back the social security tax/FICA?

Thanks

Depends on which country you are a citizen of? Some countries have treaties with US, some do not.

I dont think he / she is talking about getting Social Security benefits but actually getting a refund of taxes that he / she has paid here in the US during their H1-B tenure here.
The answer is no, you cannot get any refund, but as Alren has mentioned, you can get SS Benefits later on (at retirement age) provided you have at least 40 credits here in the US (which normally is around 10 years).

thanks.
