Germany Transit Visa
If you are traveling to United States an airline such as Lufthansa, Delta Airlines etc, there will be a stop in Frankfurt, Germany (Sometimes also for Air India).

This is a new requirement that was introduced in second week of February 2005.

Please note that an airport transit visa only allows a short stay in the international transit area, neither leaving the airport's international transit area nor overnight stays are possible.

Airport transit visa are only good for short stopovers while you are waiting a few hours for your onward flight in the airport's international transit area. However, hotel accommodation is only available outside the transit area. Please apply for a regular tourist visa if you want to stay at the airport overnight.

News has been released by German embassy in Washington DC that until further notice, transit visas will be issued on arrival at Frankfurt airport for Indian citizens.

In other words, Indians travelers who are visiting US on a valid visitor visa do not need to go German Consulate in India to get airport transit visa, until further notice.

If you are Indian citizen and if you are holding a non-immigrant visa such as visitor visa (B2 Visa), business visa (B1 visa), H1/H4 visa, L1/L2 visa etc, you require transit visa for Germany, even if you are not getting out of the airport and just changing the plane.
