GC with incorrect info

I received my GC in October 2004 and it had my first name spelled out wrongly. At that time I could not file for its replacemnet as I had to go to my home country for a family emergency and I came back to US within less than a year. I declared the incorrect info on my card at the port of entry and the officer told to me to go and replace at the immigartion office in the area I live.

Even last year after figuring out the whole procedure for replacing the card I had to go back home after two weeks..... and am planning to return to US by early Sept with the same old card where my first name is misspellt!!!!!!.

My question is: will the whole procedure for my GC replacement be affected by the fact that I have been outside US longer than 6 months but less than a year?

Once you file I-90 how long does it take to receive their notice receipt?

Do I have to hire a lawyer to assit me in this whole mess?

Thanks Ginnu. Your answer relieved me to some extent. I have one more question: will time lapse of about 2 year affect my GC replacement which has my first name misspelt.. I has has just got an extra letter!!!!!!!

I received my GC in 2004 with a spelling error on my first name and I am planning to file I-90 for card for its replacement.

Elda:

If you file for the replacement after two years of getting GC, is NOT a problem
at all.

I have read postings from members that they happened to change the
name on the GC while applying for their citizenship :D

So, don't you worry. But, you must make sure to get the card change
sooner though.

There was a posting from a member called query11. Do a search on
this forum for the posting, you should be able to read through the ordeal
he went through.

Good luck

ps: I am in the same situation as you are... My first name is abbreviated
(like, instead of John Doe, the card has J Doe) in the card. I did travel
with the card once... I am planning to get it changed soon.

yup,
it shouldnt be a issue, just make sure you have your birth certificate....
and get it done asap... :)
The 1800 numbers for uscis, there are times you get conflicting responses,so make sure u post any of your queries here and there are some nice ppl here to help you out.

Also please keep in mind that travel for more than 6 months out of u.s/trip=delay in applying for citizenship.

Error on card

My daughter's GC was received in March 2006 but middle name was not included. I applied I-90 in July and got the receipt notice exactly 2 weeks after from California Service Center. The Receipt Date is July 24, 2006. I am still waiting for approval.

query11:

What's up with birth certificate? You mean the BC for applying N400?

Well, I don't have BC instead I have affidavits.. Should that be enough
when I apply for N400 (I have a long way to go anyway).

Let me know pls.

sorry for the delay, they asked me to get my bc to verify my name on i90,there was no mention of bc in n400.
Anyways they were not happy with my bc either for the i90,so i had to get a affidavit from parents and have it attested from the indian consulate in houston.
Well again,it depends from case to case.they might not ask any of those from you guys but just wanted others to be prepared.coz by the time i had all doc's in place it took me over 15 days and like 4 trips to the application support center and 2 trips to the indian consulate.

Thanks every one for your useful info. My question is:

Should I file I-90 myself or should I go to local Immigration office to explain my story and submit the card with all other relevant docs?

The fact is that I need to travel out of US and need passport stamped for re-entry. I should submit my cartd to Texas Service Center and their processing time is 6 months as per their website!!!!!!!

Any suggestions?

DOB Month/Day reversed!

I got my GC four yrs back with month/day reversed. I just noticed it few weeks back. I will be eligible for Citizenship next year. Can you please advise me if it would create any problem in correcting my info now?

Thanks
