GC Stamping

One of my friends went in for stamping in San Jose, CA on 01/27/2005, they stamped his passport but the lady took the original approval notice. Is this normail? If not what is the course of action?

They do take the notice but your friend should have his/her courtesy copy for his/her records.

He said he only got one letter for him and another letter for his spouse

The Lawyer will have the Original copy and the applicant will have the courtesy copy. You can give either of them unless they specifically ask for the Original. I gave the Courtesy copy while stamping...

It's normal, don't worry! They also take all previous EADs, APs etc.

My friend filed his 485 on own and he got only one copy no courtsey copy. So do we need to have it and if we yes can we request a copy?
