Hi, My question concerns my parents are soon to get GC through my brother who is citizen. My mother needs a knee surgery, will she be eligible later as a GC holder to better insurance or Medicaid coverage?
If you can help with a web-link or ideas please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

The rule of thumb is what the above link states.

However GC holders, 65 years and older with no personal finances, under certain circumstances may qualify for Medicaid. Check with the County Social Services Dept. They are the ones who conduct and determine the eligibility of the applicant. Once approved, the State issues the Medicaid benefits.

Every state has different laws and even within the state, it varies from county to county.

Good Luck!

An economical alternative is to buy medicare (or both parts) coverage for 5 years after which your parent will be eligibile for free medicare coverage. Additionally Lloyd's of London provides medical insurance for green card holders. Refer to the advertisement on immihelp.com
