different things
This is nothing against anyone here but my general thoughts. So
please don't take it personally...
GC and our life are two separate entities.
You should set your goals in life irrespective of the GC journey.
It's true that they're tied together to some extent but there should be
two plans leading to same one goal.
What I mean is if you really intend to return to India for good then
set a date/year (For example, we want to go back to India no later than
when our son is 7-8 yr old. An age where the transition won't be too
hard for him OR my friends want to go back before his father turns 75 etc)
If you REALLY plan on going back, do not base it on the fact that
your GC journey has been delayed.
Be brave and be determined enough to set a definite goal and plan for it.
If getting a GC approved is going to change/cancel your plans of
homeward journey, then that is not an honest decision.
Going to India is not going to happen overnight, especially after spending almost a decade in this country.
It's going to need planning and at least one year worth of that.
It is one thing to be emotional about it and another to take practical steps.
I have seen so many people who go to India for vacation - 3 weeks and come
back and say "Oh - we didn't want to come back!" - Then I ask (ofcourse
in my mind) "Who is stopping you from staying back?"
It needs real determination, lot of strength to make that kind of decision.
I have seen people applying for Canadian PR as a backup. I wonder
what's wrong with going to your mother land.
I agree that the infrastructure there may not be the best or may not
compare with opportunities that you get here, but at least you can
be with your loved ones and lead a self-respected life.
I have never been desperate for a GC, at the same time, I would be delighted to get an approval after such a long wait. But it's said that -
Prepare for worst and hope for the best.
As someone else said, getting frustrated from this wait and trying to initiate
N types of inquiries will only add to your agony. Instead use that time
to plan for your loved ones.
My ideal American Dream would have been to
- get a GC in max. of 7 years
- and then get citizenship in next 5 years.
- return to India for the best of kids and parents
- come back to US if there is still an urge to do so down the years when
kids are ready for higher education and if parents can immigrate to US by then as well.
Anyways.. it's been 8 years now and I have already missed by first step of
the goal. But I still do maintain my 3rd step and will see if 2nd step is going to be feasible, by the time when it's time for 3rd step.
Sorry for a long long post!
Good luck all!
