GC is not everything, there is more to life.

I see many people feeling/saying GC is the passport to prosperity (may be easy prosperity). I strongly disagree with this. There are many entrepreneurs in India, China and every so called poor asian countries who have made much more money than dumb consultants in US. I have been waiting for GC for 4 years and am frustrated too. But, I do not give a damn to GC if it takes another couple of months. I would be worried only if my job is shaky. Some folks talk like going back to home country is equivalent to going to hell. Our values, our culture, our parents, brothers/sisters everything/everybody is there. We live a lame money-earning life here. What kind of social life we have? We can not live american life because values are different. All we enjoy is just the weekends with friends at parks/parties. Is that all life? Nope. I would not hesitate to go back to my country. I love this great country for its human rights, liberty, prosperity and work-culture. But I do not fit in here. Many asians do not fit in here. Asians are living a secluded life - their life revolves around work, temple(few Indian/chinese temples), Video from home country, parties. What kind of family activity happens? We see our parents/sisters/brothers once in two/three years who are in India/China/Philipines. I can not imagine seeing my son once in two years. No point in life folks. Is it all money we live for? GC would be more valuable if my family is living here. Now, not much. East or West, home is the best.
At the same time, stop cursing the INS.. There are many developed countries which do not even sponsor a GC, like Germany for example. US had been accomodating all immigrants and the procedure takes little time. I remember my passport took 9 months in my home country when I applied 8 years back. What do you do? Why curse INS alone for your position. It is only because of INS, you are accomodated into this country. It is all for the your betterment. To stop the illegals and to welcome the legal immigrants. Be patient for GC. At the same time, GC is not everything in life.

Relax and live life.

every body has the same feeling ...but nobody goes back to Home country some times we are emotional

Absolutely correct

I share your emotions. Although our GC is done I sometimes reflect if this has really been worth it. My wife and I have both good positions and my son enjoys his school life here. No regrets there but I too feel that the GC is not everything. Home will always be India. For all those who think that the GC and then citizenship is everything here is a thought... Living in the US is one thing, but will you be at peace dying here?? Is this the land where you would want to be buried/cremated??

I fully Agree. PLEASE READ this POST BELOW

Just some food for thought....

Hi. I visited this board after a long time just I felt little bit nostalgic not visiting this forum. I got my GC six months back and thank God happy sailing after that.
The thread "First Person to throw GC away" made me to post this.
Everybody think staying here or going back to India is one\'s own call. I also feel India is good and going back will make me happy. I can go back today without any problems. But what I feel is that I can make wealth here and put it to use for the needy in India. That is what India needs from you all NRIs. Last six years I have spent so far atleast USD 80K in charities. Built buildings for my primary school (a poor school), my higher secondary school, donated 6 new computers for my higher secondary schools, helping 15 poor students to meet their education expenses, feeding 45 blind children in my hometown, renovated temples around my town. It is something which makes me feel good, and meets my purpose of being in US throwing all the good comforts my home (in India) offers.

It makes me feel really good. And I feel that these charities will guard me and my children(and my age-old parents) against any odds in my life (just to be little selfish). India needs lot of helps from all our brethern like this. Medical, educational, moral, religious, food helps are needed by all the people. Just come out of your own circle and think for the public cause.

Even a continuous $100 donation a month to a charity of your like will take your home country far ahead.

Every one is young here and you all will accept my line of thoughts. Just give it a thought. No harm. If you dont accept, just forget it. No hard feelings. It is not just for yourselves and your family to be good. The circle is much bigger than that.

I would even like to call back "fortune100" to come back to US and join in this noble cause and start living for a bigger circle and bigger cause.

I am not trying to boast about myself here. I would better not. But the cause I have taken cannot be met myself alone. I need lot of volunteers to join this project "make your home better".

It is not good to blame the cows or other dirty things you may not like in India. It is your home. Who else is going to clean up the mess. It is not going to be anyone other than you. Clean it up buddy. Do your share..When you go to India for vacation, just plant a tree and tell some of your dear ones that you want to see how it looks in your next vacation. Have you done that. I have something in my home which says that I had been here back from US six times. I have something in my hometown which says I celebrated my dad\'s 80th birthday. I have something in my hometown which says that my new-born daughter was here for her first birthday. I will proudly show it to her when she grows up. Will ask her to do more things like that in remembrances of her dad. Feels great isn\'t it.. really

I have gone through those feelings so many times. Just spend $50 and buy books for a poor kid in your local school and enjoy the smile. Man.. it is awesome. I got so many such personal smiles (my treasures) like that in my heart which I play back and enjoy. It always makes me feel to do more like that. In fact I am a sort-of addicted to that. Help kids, poor, elderly. Let them live a day of their life on your sponsorship. Share their happiness smile.. My god.. that is an eternal feeling.

Please give it a thought. Just a GC or citizenship and two-car garageed home is not my goal.

Set your goals higher. Stand up on the mountain. Have a greater vision. Strive hard to achieve it.

Other than the part about India, this is true for anyone from any third world countries.
best of luck.

I will come back and try to see the answers in this thread. If this can make at least one person to think, I made the time I took to type this long note.

Best of luck to you all.

I would be thinking and feeling the same as most of you do.

Fortunately, I have most of my family here(including mother, grandmother and all aunts) and I do enjoy the family and social life completely here including the celebrate-able festivals and community gathering, wedding etc. Although, I STILL miss India/Mumbai a lot and I like to go back and visit any time. So, I can certainly imagine the state of mind of all those people who has only their own family-spouse and kids, and brothers/sisters/cousins in some case, here in the USA.

Folks, the life here is great and so the one in India. Everyone knows, USA has certain things what India may not and India certainly has many things which USA may not!

Decision is your own to take. Either way, it will not be a wrong choice.

P.S. My dentist(needless to say he was Rich!) just sold everything and went back to India last month after many years or good practice!

Go figure!

This US is a trap. Even if one wants to go back to their home country it is very difficult to leave.

After the kids grow up it is really hard to even think of going back. I know some good engineers like electrical, mechanical, civil etc who came here 20 yrs ago and lost jobs and decided to goback. But could not escape from the trap. Now they are driving taxis in New York!!
So blame it on luck!!

For those interested and don\'t want (or don\'t have) to ...

spend lot of money please look at this organisation:
http://www.christianchildrensfund.org/
You can sponser a child in India through this org for $24 a month.

Also there are other organisations like CRY: www.cry.org.

I have been a sponser of CCF for more than three years.

Let me know if need more info OR jsut checkout the websites.

Enjoy,

To txflute: The message is the right one for all NRI\'s.

I strongly agree with most of the thoughts and idealogy you mentioned, If 90% of the NRI\'s think like you, India will be a much better place to live and we won\'t see a childern longing for food or education by 2020.

I do have clear cut goals and have the great desire to help the downtrodden which i left at home (India) and will be doing my best to lift the spirits of my people at home.

I am very happy to see people are recognizing ground realities.

One of my friend who was originally immigrated to Canada from India relocated to USA few years back. This man had decent job and to his luck all his relocation and immigration worked went through without any hazzles and he is well settled as per US standards. Now a days his outlook about our country is like from that of a jerk. Very often he expresses his ill feelings about his own country. He thinks India is a worse state , no decency ,dirty people, no ethics among people, corruption and no opportunities for qualified people like him etc that he has full contept for his mother country.

I am surprised he is a fool or merely an opportunist! – that Now he does not realize that because of his eduction he received ( Totally Free – as country gave him education) he qualified for an immigration to Canada and that because of his quality education from India that he was able to perform good in this country and succeed. What an Indian!. It is sad that many people among us conveniently forget our beloved mother country which gave them what they are today

That is sad

Was saddened to hear the attitude of your friend. Mail him an old torn slipper (chappal) and ask him to hit himself on the head with it.

I am reminded of Rabindranath tagores\'s words:
========================
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high; Where knowledge is free; Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls; Where words come out from the depth of truth; Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection; Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way in the dreary desert sand of dead habit; Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever widening thought and action.... into that heaven of freedom, my father, let my country awake.

=========================================

Your friend will know about India when his children grow up here and he pays for their education.

Some people do not identify themselves. They are damaged by the materialistic comforts of today and extremely proud of themselves that they feel they are in par with some americans and forget their background.

Guys, be realistic!

As soon as you guys hear GC approval on AVM, you will start mortgage calculations for house & new cars. Start talking about which school district is good for elementary or middle school! Am I right?

exactly!

Guys! I don\'t want to be critical about your good thoughts and I appreciate all your good words but... at the same time I just want to share my experience that I have seen many people (from my home country) here who gave many \'hypocritic\' lectures when they were in rough times and quickly forgot all their lectures once they passed through those times and started talking about \'great things\' here and homeland\'s \'hopeless things\' :(
