Hi Guys,

I recently got my GC(employment Based), Considering taking PPL(Private pilot License), we all know that before we take any flight training course we have to get clearance from FBI by giving our finger prints and send them all the required documentation. My concern is will it be any problem to my GC, Will i have any troubles or enquires from FBI. I am an Indian and have been in this country from 8 yrs. Guys please post here if you have info. Thanks in advance.

Hello Matra,
I have a private pilots licence and I had it before I got my green card. I had started my lessons before the new law went into effect (Get FBI clearance), so I was able to continue my lessons without getting the clearance. The catch was that if I wanted to take the next step and work towards my IFR grade then I will need to get the FBI clearance.
When I cleared POE in Newark the officer did ask me as to why I was taking flying lessons. I told him I like to fly and that was it. Mind you I fly commercially every week to Europe and was never asked anything when travelling on H-1 or AP. Since the Green Card never been asked about flying.

Obtaining TSA clearance took me 2 weeks last November.
- You go to TSA office, give them fingerprints.
- upload documents
- within 10 days you should get a pre-approval status that you can check on flightschoolcandidates web site. You can start the training now.
- Later (1 more week for me) your status will be changed to approval.

It was 130$ for application and 110$ for fingerprints as far as I remember.

p.s.
checkride is expected in September :)
