GC holder - want to return to india but own a home

backhome

My wife and I are both green card holders (recd. last June), while our children are US citizens.
I own a house here in the US. I have received an interesting job offer back home in India, in my home city, that I would like to pursue. But ofcourse, selling the house in this market is virtually impossible, unless I am willing to take a tremendous loss.

My question(s) is / are:
- Can I take up the job in India, but come back every year to the US to maintain my green card status? This is not a preferred option, and there is no guarantee that I would be allowed re-entry.
- Do I need to maintain my green card status in order to be a home owner (once I surrender the GC, I am just some foreign national who owns a home here – is that legal?)?
- I want to leave the house on rent once I go back to India. Can I surrender my green card, go back to India, and yet retain my home here (ofcourse, paying my tax and mortgage) so that I can sell it when things improve?
- How to manage things when the time comes to sell (do I need to be here in person, etc).
- Or, can I give power of attorney to someone else living in the US? This way, I do not have to be back when the time comes to sell.

Appreciate all the help of the people in the forum in this regard.

The answer (s) is/are:
- This will not work as you already mentioned
-To have a home in US, you do not have to be GC holder. Visa, illegal, foreigner also can buy home in US. The confusion may be because most lenders will not give money unless you are at least GC holder
-Yes you can retain the home. One of my friends has 2 houses in US renting them and got tourist visa lastly for something else. I do not think the market will go back to those a
- You can give power of attorney to someone; give it to real state company to rent it for you. It is not practical to come for few days every now and then because you have a home in US and you can not do any thing during those few days, I think

Rent is temporary southing action to aggressive disease which makes the disease more advanced and amputation will eventually happen with more loss by then.
