What? You claimed asylum from the former USSR and just got it???

I presume that is your birthplace, and you got asylum from a successor state. If so, and your NP is still valid, usually it's fine if you are not afraid to use it.

Please do not use your home country's passport. You can travel to the countries that you have mentioned with the RTD, and you will be fine. A derivative asylee can use their home country's passport, but the principal applicant cannot. Make sure to research before traveling, as the US immigration system is getting stricter.

Once you have a GC, ESPECIALLY derivative, there is basically no risk in using your passport. I would generally advice against renewing your passport until you become a citizen, but if it's still valid, go ahead.
