GC for parents visiting us in January

Hi,

I just became a US citizen and want to apply for GC for my parents. They are visiting us on Visitors Visa in January, planning to stay for 6 months.

Should I apply right now or wait for them to come here?
Should I apply for them as AOS or CP? Advantages? Disadvantages?
Can they extend there stay if required?

Any help will be much appreciated.

arriving on a non-immigrant visa with immigrant intent is illegal and could be punished quite severely.
