GC complete date - to count 6 months before changing employer

Now i have read all the debates and discussion about the 6 month "thumb-rule" advocated for and against by many people here on this forum & others. Personally i have taken the decision to wait for 6 more months before changing employers now that iam approved. My intention is not a debate on that.

My question is, if we decide to wait for 6 months before changing employer and after "getting GC" , what date should this "getting GC" date be? Should it be the date i got the approval email (12/16/04) or the date i would get my passport stamped or would it be the date i would actually get the plastic card?

Supposing the INS were to look at my employment history and supposing they were to apply the 6 month yard stick ( please note the "supposing" ) what would be the benchmark date they would consider?

Any opinions/suggestions please? I need to plan ahead based on what you guys tell me - please assume that the 6 month thumb-rule is in effect.

PS: joyd, since you are in a similar situation and waiting for 6 months to change employers, what date have you considered? Appreciate greatly your advice in advance.

I dont think they consider the date of stamping, as one can get the stamping very late as it happened with couple of friends. One was in India when his case is approved (came after 2 months after approval and got it stamped), the other friend's wife had a boy, and due to some complications she was advised complete rest for 4 months, so got it done after that.

I think it is the notice date (inapproval notice) it matters. Also, since there is no hardcore rule is published for 6-month, I don't think if it is either dates, it should not matter as one normally gets the stamping done in 2-3 weeks time.

Anyway these are my thoughts.

Thanks, iamgctracker.

Does anybody else have an opinion on this? Is it the approval date or the passport stamping date or the plastic card issue date that is relevant for USCIS for the 6 month thumbrule after getting GC?

Legally:
1. GC is for a future job.
2. If you are not working with your sponsor prior to getting GC, you can start working with him the day your GC is approved (i.e. 485 approved). It does not matter if you get it stamped or not.

So I think everything should apply from the day 485 is approved or in case of CP, you enter the country.

Since the Citizenship count starts from the Date of Approval and not any of the other dates. I think the 6 month could would also be from this date.
