Since your lawyer could not help, how about taking an InfoPass apptmt at the same USCIS office where you did the passport stamping and and ask them how to correct it.
I beleive you need to file a I-90 (green card renewal/replacement) petition with your local INS office. I met a person who had similar problem and he was told to file a I-90 petition with the local INS office.
