GC after residency on H1 visa in community hospital

hello all:
I\'m starting my residency on h1 in med/peds (4 years) community hospital in July 2002. Can I apply for GC for myself during residency? The hospital is in au underserved area I think. I will soon have 3 publications and I already have an MPH. How do I go about it and what do I need to do, which category will I file under?
I\'ve heard of NIW, O visa but I dn\'t really know which I can file by myself.
