Gap between OPT ends and H1B start date

Hi,

I am working for a company on OPT which is valid till May 31, 2007. My company applied for my H1B visa this year but the quota was closed and my application has been returned back by Vermont Center. Now, my company is ready to apply for the next year but I am worried about my status as I will be out of status after May next year and the H1B will be valid from October 2007. My company is very new to this H1B visa sponsorship and thus don't know much about these things. I am very concern as can I stay on some sort of extension till I get my H1B ? What would be the best thing to do in my case. Please suggest ?

THANKS,

Gaurav

I experienced similiar situation but with tn visa and h1. I renew my tn and this cancelled the automatic activation of my h1, so i need still to go to a embassy to activated.
I hope this can help u a little

Thanks for taking out the time to reply. However, it doesn't help much as there is no renewal of OPT and I can not go back to F1 visa.

Why can't you go back to F1 visa? You are still in F1 visa and all you need to do is get an I-20 from one of the universities in the US, or even from a community college and attend there until September 2007. In September 30, drop out from the school and start working in October 1 in H1B visa for the company that applies your H1B.

Just an idea. Good luck.
