Gap between OPT and H1

Hi,

My OPT is expiring on 29th of August. My H1 has been approved but the it is valid from 1st October. Is it legal to work meanwhile? What are the rules regarding a gap between two work authorizations?

You can stay during grace period, but no work is allowed.
