G-325A Issue on Mother's maiden name - please answer

Hello all,
We are filling out the form G-325A which asks for the following. For mother's maiden name we put in mother's surname (gupta) before marriage and mailed them the form. The INS ppl have sent the form back to us questioning whether s gupta and s kumar are the same ppl! This doesn't make sense - why are they questioning this when they had asked the same ??!! Now one lawyer told us to re-send the form with Surname of Mother changed to "kumar". Wouldn't re-sending the form be more confusing for them and stand against us once again? The INS people just asked us to send a marriage certificate saying that s gupta is married to mr. a kumar ! We don't have any such papers that can prove my mother's last name was gupta ! Please help what should we do !!

I think you should not change something that is not true, later one then things can be all mess up.

If your mother's maiden name is gupta then gupta should be there and if your father's last name is Kumar (which that is why your maiden name is : Kumar).

What the note that the USCIS sent to you said exactly?
Does your mother and father can fax you a copy of their passport?

Advice: don't use real names over here, is a public forum...so you know.
