I saw some posts from people who are in this situation. This may help them.
My 140 and both our 485s were denied and then my 485 was reopened after MTR on 140, see signature for details. My wife's case did not re-open.
I had to call USCIS about 4 times. First they said they will send the info to the concerned officer. Second time, after 15 days, they said file has been requested. After few days, the file had reached the officer and was told case will be reopened shortly. Next time same thing again and after few days case got reopened. It took almost 2 months after I first called the VSC.
If you are in the same situation, you need to talk to the service center reps and not the national support center. The way to talk to service center reps is that once your case status is read after you punch in the EAC(case number), select the option "if you think you filed 2 related cases and think these got seperated". You will be connected to respective service center and explain your situation. Some reps there will say you need to file a seperate MTR, but that is not true. I can say so from my and some other persons experience.
I did not get any help from my attorney and was planning to contact congressman, but fortunately didn't need that.
