My employer has transferred me from tn-1 to h1-b. I am contemplating going to canada in a couple of weeks. To what I understand so far is that on my way back I will have to present my h1-b paperwork. Since my h1-b was filed while I was in US I already received a new i-94 as part of h1-b paperwork.

my greencard process is also in works.. well its in labor right now. wonder if someone is in the same boat. would like to hear other people's expereience.

thanks

Not really. If the I-94 is "current" (ie. its effective date are already here), the you are already in H1 status. You simply attach the I-94 to your passport now, and that is that. There is nothing to do at the border when you leave or return.

Your firm should modify their I-9 to reflect your new status now.
