I recently filed a (I-130) for my wife so she can gain residency in the US. At that time i was not a citizen. What can i do now that i became a citizen, do you I call and switch it or file a new application or what. Please if someone knows anything would you please respond to this question.

You should call them. But usually you send them a copy of your Citizenship proof ( Naturalization Certificate) and let them know that you are a Citizens now. It shouldn't be hard at all.
Even though they issued all these paper work for you, but they want to to update everything for yourself and that is why you have to let them know that you are a Citizen now and need to upgrade your petition on behalf of your spouse and change you status on that form from Permanent Resident to Citizen.

Good Luck

Is it advisible to file for I130 for my wife rite now even though I am waiting for my IL in N400 process? If that was the case, I should have filed it a year back....

Hey afraj,

I am also in same boat. Actually I am going to india this saturday for engagement in wedding process. I am waiting on interview for citizenship. please post ur updates here.
BTW, when u filed I130 for ur wife? which consulate u belongs to in india?

Thanx..

All of you waiting for citizenship should go ahead and file I-130 now, this way atleast your file is in the system. You can always upgrade later. Good luck. I file for my husband on November 15th and i am still waiting for approval. It's taking a long time now, just do it now and get it in the system.

frustrated_alot,

If I am not wrong, your hubby is overseas, correct? If he was here in US, the process of AOS would have been lot quicker, isn't it. FYI, I had applied for my wife's I-130 back in Feb 2004 when I was on GC. Her I-130 got approved last year in Sept. If you think about it, it took almost 3 and a half yrs for I-130 to be approved. When I filed for her I-485 after becoming USC in Jan of this year, I included a copy of that I-130 approval and sent it to Chicago lockbox. The process started moving real fast.

Are you getting married while you're in India or is it only for engagement?

It is enagement. So, I have Fiance visa option, I am working on that as well..
so, just gathering papers for that fiance visa etc..
K1 & K3 timelines r almost same nowdays..is that true?
any comments?

Thanx...

Good luck to you, if you know you are going to get the citizenship you might want to wait so you can bring your wife under fiancee status. it is a lot quicker that way.
