Hello, I just finished community college and transferred to University to complete my bachelor degree( I am a F-1 status and haven't been out of status since I got here in 2005). What I need to know is If there any other way to get permanent residency If I live certain amount of years legally and all the time on US soil? Is lottery or marriage the only possible way to get one(obviously I don't have US born parent on anything like that? I came in 2005 with J-1 and renewed in 2006 and the fall of 2007 I started community college and now university. Haven't apply for OPT despite the fact I could after i got my AA degree from the community college. But I am fed up with having the right to work legally off campus and looking for a way to do it(legally) after i get my bachelor degree. I hope someone can help me with advise.

Thank you!!!

First of all, only a lawful permanent resident can file an N-400 UNLESS, one is active military during wartime AND joined the service while abroad (not you).

Many student go on to obtain H1-B visas that allow them to work and if the employer is willing, to pursue a greencard.

Student in STEM majors (F-1 students with a degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM)), benefit from longer OPT periods while pursuing an H1-B visa.

Start planning now and that could be your road to a greencard.

There are several avenues to gain lawful permanent residency. more

This information focuses specifically on application through a family member: your spouse who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

If you marry a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, you may have your spouse apply to USCIS in your behalf to adjust your status to a permanent resident; this would allow you to live and work in the U.S. while retaining citizenship in your home country.
