from conditional greencard to permanent greencard

Hello all :) I have a question. My conditional greencard is about to expire at Sep 1, 2011, and according to my last interview the officer asked me to file the application for permanent greencard after June 1, 2011. Do people know how long is it between you file the application till the actual interview? I am traveling outside the country between Aug 8 - 24, and if I file it in May, will I be able to go to the interview a little early? If I file it after I come back which is Aug 24, is it too late? (what happens if I still haven't heard from the interview and my conditional greencard is expired?)

Oh and what form do I need??

Thank you so much!! as always!!!

Most applicants aren't interviewed. Of those who are interviewed, the timing of the interview is very unpredictable. It can occur anytime from 6 weeks after you apply to more than a year.

But regardless of the interview, you still have to give fingerprints about 3-6 weeks after applying.

June 1 is 92 days before September 1, but the rule is 90 days. So you should apply no earlier than June 3; June 1 would be too early. Filing too early results in rejection.

wow I didn't know that most of the applicants were not interviewed... that would make it so easy since we have to drive hours for the interview. Thank you so much!
