Dear Forum:

I had to laugh, When he was telling me about the Entry Experiance, I figured this has be share with my beloved Forum members! Look, my friend got his GC thru Asylum around March and He went to Cop at the end of July and just got back two day ago, He said at point of entry the officer said to him Welcome-back, scanned his his form and he told him not to use Travel document any more and tell him to apply for NP, but he gave the RTD back to
him. He said no problem at all, I think like most of u have said each IO uses it own ways.

Tell me the details , he used a Refugee passport or RE-entry Permit passport to COP???
Did he travel with his NP at all?

It truly depends on an IO but one can argue that once you establish your status as an LPR then you can travel freely to any country including COP

There is no way to travel to COP and come back to US on RTD as an asylee.Let's say this is impossible.Your friend might be Refugee.Cause as refugee, you can go home.If he/she's not,he/she might be lying. You need more details from your friend.

Maybe he got a Refugee Travel document, as an asylee, and then got his GC, so although the RTD says ASYLEE, he is now a PR.

Why do you say or believe an asylee cannot go to his COP on a RTD and return to USA?
I have read many topics here, some with great input and the others just assumptions and speculation about what can one do vs. noit be able to do and or allowed to do.
The issue weather, one can enter COP with an RTD is not a mandatory issue, rather, it depends on your COP. Lots of countries have a very open policie in regards to that, since they know and understand the circumstancies the country was or is. I do see how an Iraq citizen, asylee would be stoped from entering Iraq, so is a Leberia Citzen, Liban, DRC etc etc.

Guys, I checked it today he travel with Re-entry permit sorry, put RTD. i have asked him for me to post his re-entry permit. for u guys to believe his country visa is on it.

I don't know what you're talking about.I think you need to learn what means assylee. If you're an asylee I would ask you to use your RTD go home and come back to US.Now you see a second post by LOOSERD saying that was Reentry Permit. That's the reason why I asked him to get more details from his/her friend.

LOOSERD,

If he used RP to COP, where did he get the COP visa from? I am presuming from the embassy over in the US? Please check for more details.

It is country-specific. Some countries will not issue visas to their own citizens. Some do not mind at all.

Wasn't there someone on this forum who said he went back to Columbia with his RTD? He said that immigration there didn't really care...

Your friend is VERY lucky. I personally read on the Citizenship Forum recently - about a month ago- of an ex-asylee whom visited his COP 2x a year for 4 years (for a total of 8 times) and his citizenship application was denied. The reason...are you ready...was "Loyalty". The Immigration Officer was very upset and grilled the applicant as to why he visited the same country he claimed political asylum from. Search the citizenship forum for that thread - it will bring light to the situation.

What some people on this forum do not understand is that just because you make it past the CBP officer at the time of entry DOES NOT mean you are home free. Remember at the time of your naturalization interview, all of your trips are scrutinized. Heck your entire immigration history and record is scrutinized. So, if the IO happens to catch the famous AS6 on your GC and notices you listed a few trips to your home land he/she will grill you on that.

You want to hear something funny...? On one of my returns back home (to the USA), the CBP officer upon looking at my GC and welcoming me back asked me what 'AS6' stood for. He had never seen that category of admission before! Imagine that.

i have 2 question to ask you

will the immigration officer during citizenship interview ask about trips before you get your green card ?

does the immigration keep record of all the departures before sep 11?

as you remember before sep 11 the INS was chaos, then they established the homeland security dep
