Freeze on "student visas"

I saw an article in The Times of India that the US consulates were going to "freeze" the student visas from India for next 6 months. Does anyone have more information on this. Does it effect both F1 and J1 categories? Does it apply only to new visas or also to people visiting India from US?
 
Freeze on F1?

I heard the same. I am changing my status from H1 to F1. Now people are advising against it. Especially travelling to Mexico/Canada or even to India.

Please share some more information if anybody has it.

hi,
i\'m on an F1 multiple entry visa doing a master\'s in public health in NY and wanted to go india and take a semester off (not more than 5 months coz that\'s the limit)so i can take a USMLE review course there. considering the questionable situation regarding the F1 visa these days, should i still go, and will it be easy to get back providing my paperwork is ok?
please let me know.

Hello Nikhil,
I just came back from Mexico, Ciauded Juarez after getting my multiple entry visa.. Please don\'t go by rumours, and believe me, as long as u have proper documents, u should be fine. There is increased security at the border, but other than that i didn\'t see any problems or any changed procedures, if u have proper documents, you should be ok.

I am planning to make an attempt to get F-1 Visa at Ciudad Juarez. Right now I am on a F-2 Visa. I already made an attempt in Toronto, Canada and tehy asked me that you should apply in your home country. Does anyone knows how things are over there. Any specific questions one should take care of ? Shall I consult an Attorney ?

My Wife ( was on an H4 now on H1 status)& I (on H1 status, we have an appointment for H1 stamping for both of us coming up at Tornto.
I would appreciate if U could give me some info on the general attitude of the visa officers...
If u met some one there/ have any info on H1 stamping at Toronto.
I would greatly apprecite any response.

H4/F2--->H1 If u dont have a degree from US Do not take risk

I know a friend working for Ford Detroit currently on F2 Visa, went for H1B Stamping at Toronto. She was refused H1 bcoz her degrees were not from US. She was able to come back on her original F2 Visa

Denied an F2

I am a grad student on an F1 visa and my wife was denied an F2 visa in
October 2001,has anyone had similar experiences? Do you get an F2 the second or 3rd time,please do advice

F1 visa

My F1 visa will be over by may2002, i need to take a new F1, i got the I-20 from the new university, should i go outside U.S to take the F1, or can i prolong my F1 in U.S itself. Please let me know as soon as possible

 my wife who is on F2 visa has recently got admission to MS for spring 2002 and she wants to convert her F2 visa to F1 visa as soon as possible, is it possible for her to go to canada/mexico/ or india to get her visa ststus changed, please help us as we are very confused in this matter.

  I havea similar proble.My F1 expires in feb 2002.But I will not be graduating until end of next year.You will be in status as long as u r in school and taking full course load.But when u go to india,you need to get ur passport stamped while coming back as they have closed the mexican and canadian embassies.I still do not know if there is any other way out as I am getting married next sept.
can u let me know if u have more info...

  I am student on F1 visa.My visa expires in FEB 2002 but my I-94 says D/S which means I am in status.But next year I will be going to India and since my F1 in the passport expires I need to get it stamped.Now since the mexican and canadian embassies are closed i have to go back to India to get it stamped.I am so confused as it is not possible for me to go now.I am scared to go after my visa expires.will they create a problem even though I am in status here or is there a way out.

Is a Mexican visa required to enter Mexico

I have an appointment In Mexico on Dec17. I wanted to know besided I20, Certificates,transcripts and necessary financial docs from sponsor do I need any other docs to carry to the consulate? I will be going to Tijuana. I also wanted to know abt the docs necessary to convince the consulate abt my return to India.
Do I need a Mexican visa to enter Mexico? I Heard that we need just my passport and they give permits for say 24 hrs at the entry point. Is this true? How did you go? Please reply soon since I have the appointment on next monday.

I was a grad student on the F1 visa and my husband was denied visa twice saying that he was a potential immigrant although i showed support and other documentation. My husband applied once in 1999 and again in 2000. both times at mumbai. Now i am thinking of getting a H1.
