France now accepting RTDs!

Asylee with RTD accepted in France?

For some time, France has accepted RTDs; however, you had to be already a permanent resident - and that had to be your class category on the page with photograph on your RTD - to officially get the EU visa through the French embassy. From what I understood, you could not visit France directly (arrive first in France from outside Europe). If you have not received your PR status in the U.S., your RTD says asylee or refugee under the class category.

I am hoping that that changed and France allows asylees and refugees to go there thru "the front door" with our RTDs B4 we get adjusted to PR status. Some people in this forum have reported that they went to another European country and then went to France. I'm not sure if this is risky or not. Hopefully, we will not have only this option to go to France.

I visited the French Consulate of Northern California website again today, and it looks like they took out the restrictions that were there B4, saying specifically that only asylee/refugee with PR status could go. Now I don't see the restrictions anymore.

In the link posted above from the French consulate it specifically states "Refugee Travel Document" under the "R" in the alphabetical order. It does not specify anything else, so I am guessing that means that now anyone with an asylee status (not in a PR stauts) can travel. Also, this listing of the RTD was not there before, so that means that the situation has changed. I should check in with the French consulate in person.

Its not true. I went to the french embassy a few weeks ago with my RTD since I ONLY found a cheap ticket to germany through france. I just wanted a letter from them stating that Its ok I can transit through france(I had done it in the past) but I wanted a letter..and the french cop was so freaking rude!..He almost want to tear up my RTD..! He said they dont accept it..PERIOD! NOt for transit or anything!...I have done that in the past where I went to germany through france but I didn't want to take the risk again cuz Airline employees are so stupid sometimes!..dont want to waste my ticket..!

They dont accept RTD's unless something changed within 2 weeks!

Looks like the RTD might work in France

My roommate stop by to inquire at the NY French Consulate about travelling to France with an RTD and he was told that it "should" be ok. I don't know about the should part, but I will go out there myself and find out for sure.
