FP with valid I94, but expired h-1 VISA stamp on passport

I have a FP on May 25, 2004 at INS Dallas.
I have a valid I94 based on employement. However, the H1 visa on passport has expired and the only way I can renew it is to go out of the country to revalidate it (since it has expired for more than the defined period of time).
- Can I still go for FP with this valid I94 and expired H1B stamp?
- Do they check for the validity of this stamp?
- If I am asked as to if the I94 is valid, do I have to take current employment letters? (Anyone can take a I94 from an earlier employer!)

As mentioned in the FP notice, Passport is just one of the means of Identification. For your peace of mind carry your H1 extension approval. They know it all.
