Have noticed quite a few people saying that they did a walk-in for their Fingerprints prior to their appointment date. I wanted to do a walk-in because my scheduled FP date is 12/23/11 and I may be travelling that day. However when I went to the Detroit ASC, they refused and said that if I could not make it on scheduled date, I will need to re-schedule with the USCIS and then it will be a date later than the appointment date.

Every ASC operates differently and they might refuse you if they are overloaded. When you arrived there, was it very crowded? If yes, you might try your luck one more time if it looks like they are not too busy. Maybe very early in the morning.

You could do FP at any ASC so if you are traveling and you know Detroit ASC is not friendly, you may want to take chance elsewhere. Normally if you miss your scheduled FP date, you could go to your ASC on any Wed/Thurs for FP without having to reschedule it.
