FP Walk-in - How fast can you do it?

Do they care if you just walk in anytime?
I know they won't do it if they are busy....but wondering if you can go anytime...

Also, security usually checks if you have an appointment, has anyone else had issues with security not allowing them to walk-in?

Try to go after 2pm. If they ask, have a good reason to why you want to do it early. In my case they didn't ask.

When you show up, just hand them the appointment notice at the front desk where they ask for it, and act as if nothing is wrong. Don't mention the date difference unless they bring it up.

Go for an early walk in only if you have a genuine reason.Just take your appointment notice with you and ask for your fingerprints to be taken. If they have less appointments for that day, they will definitely schedule yours. I don't think it will be of any problem. Good Luck!!

Does it really speed up the process?

I always see many applicants pushing for early walk-in fingerprinting. Some have valid reasons and I understand but some look to me as if they just want to cut the line. So does the early walk-in really speed up the process? Is it really worth if you do not have a valid reason?

I don't think it does. I did mine early, for a valid reason. no updates since then. people who did it on time got faster updates.

Your timeline looks similar to mine last year shown below (though this was for the Raleigh-Durham, NC office). You will be most likely done by the end of February.

N-400 timeline for nwctzn:
Oct 15, 2010 - filed
Nov 19, 2010 - fingerprinting/biometrics done
Jan 04, 2011 - change of online status: inline for interview
Jan 10, 2011 - interview letter received
Feb 08, 2011 - interview
Feb 18, 2011 - oath ceremony

I don't think so either. I was contemplating going in early (due to the fact everybody else likes to do it) but I started analyzing different timelines and comparing the early and the scheduled ones and I didn't find a good reason.

So, as said before, if you really have a good reason to do it; do it. But if not, just keep your scheduled date and everything moves as it should.

Also, -and this is only my reasoning- we are assigned a "Priority Date" (PD) when the application is received, that *has* to have something to do when things are moving along.
In mosamno's case he/she went a day earlier than me (walked-in) but their PD was after mine, and I received the status change to Testing and Interview first. (Early Priority Date)

So just do everything when it's time and you'll be OK.

Second that! Unless you have a really valid reason, go on your scheduled date.

I think the PD is just to make sure you didn't apply too early ( before the 90 days). A lot of early walk-ins got the status change before their original FPs date.

Usually the reason is the appt date/time does not fit within your schedule..
I did study some timelines and noticed that people who did an early walk-in got their interview assigned before their actual appt date.

Now, does that mean you got an earlier interview, i do not think so ...

It might be on a case by case base. I did my finger print early and got my interview schedule notification before the date my finger print appointment was originally scheduled.

FP completed

Wife went to USCIS local office and according to her it was empty.
Security asked her for her visit reason. She said fingerprinting.
She got inside and within few minutes she was done.
Obviously Wednesdays are the best days since no infopass appt are made.

I did walk-in for FP last Thursday, my original app date for FP is Nov 15th. But untill today I haven't seen they received my FP and update the case status.

I completed my FP through walk-in earlier today. I was hoping the day after thanksgiving would be a light day and it did turn out so. The ASC near my house was totally empty, took about 10 mins in & out... My appt date was actually for Dec 1, but went in midday and no questions were asked and neither did I volunteer anything...

I guess doing an early walk-in does help.
Nimche's original FP date was 11/30 and today (11/28) he got an update "In line for interview"..

Hello all,

I did a walk in for FingerPrinting at the Chicago Broadway Application Support Center. I was initially scheduled for 7th November 2012 and my wife for 8th November 2012.

The office was empty. However, the officer at the entry desk looked at the appointment letters and asked why we are coming in early when our appointment date is 1 week later. I said that we may be out of town at that time. He asked 'Do you have plane tickets' - This was weird. I said 'No - We will be travelling locally out of town'. He then asked 'When will you be travelling out of town'....

Finally - he told us to come on the morning of the day of our travel. He handed over to us the "Applicant Information Worksheet" and requested us to have it filled and it will be quick on that day.

So we will have to go back on 7th November 2012 at 8 am... which is just 1 day earlier than our allotted time.

Thanks
Abdul
