Is Passport required for FP or any other forms of identification acceptable? Could anybody post their experiences please.

My Passport got bruised accidentally. Though, all the details are intact, I may have to apply for a Duplicate which could take 2 months (as per Indian emassy people). That is the reason why I am asking this question. Please share any experiences.

No you do not need your passport. A state issued Id like drivers liscense will work just fine. Also if you have your EAD you can take that since they need to verify your A# (I guess) with the actual.

Thanks Spear for your reply. Not to undermine your reply, but someone said that they do insist on passport. So if somebody has any experience in this regard it would be better.

I am in NJ and I have to appear for FP at Newark. Does the procedure depend on the service center?

Getting a new passport does not take 2 months. It only takes 2 weeks from Indian Consulate in New York or if you can go to New York you can get it in 1 week.

I went to Indian consultate and I have been given a bunch of forms and told that it would take 1-2 months. I have got my FP next week.
