Received FP notice on Sep/19, went to ASC on Sep/20 and had our FP done.

Usually they don't allow FP's to be done before the scheduled date and time at the ASC. Our's was an exceptional case (we're expecting our baby next month) and hence they considered.
Very simple process... just took about 15 minutes (from entering the ASC to exiting); there was no crowd though!
It is important that your fingers be clean of nicks and cuts. Take your time and let your finger tips heal naturally (if cut or scratched) before going for FP.
INS will have your FP done again repeatedly if your prints were rejected by FBI. One of my friends had had to do her's four times!! No joke!!! Obviously, it delayed her processing.
Keeping fingers crossed for next steps...
