My I-140 was approved last Nov and my I-485 was submitted last July (right now they are processing 485 cases from June 2001). Can anyone tell me when I should expect to do the fingerprints? I am under the impression that fingerprint is good for only one year. So, do they notify people within one year of expected I-485 approval date? Is there anything else I am required to do while waiting for my I-485 approval?

You'll receive a FP notice when they decide that your case can reasonbly be processed within 15 months - FP validity period. So I'd say you don't have to worry about it for quite some time.

My wife and I sent out our at I485 same day
but only one get a notice for FP in Sept. last year.

Will she get notice for FP soon ?
Is that possible that her FP may not be required ?
