It's now more than 4 mos. since my PD (1.22.07) and I have not received any FP notice. Before I seek help from my local congressman, I had sent a formal inquiry to NSC asking for the cause of this delay. On 5.10.07, they replied to me as I quote:

"Thank you for your inquiry regarding your application for naturalization, Form N-400. Due to automated systems scheduling errors the placement of fingerprinting dates near your home in Illinois has been postponed. We hope to remedy this error and schedule fingerprinting as soon as possible. We regret the delay in processing your application for naturalization, and thank you for your patience....sincerely, F. Gerard Heinauer, Director, NSC/GLH319".

a) Is this one of those "do nothing and just wait" situations? I feel so helpless that my life is on hold now due to some automated systems scheduling error. When can I inquire again?

b) Will this delay push down further my interview date? Is it necessary for me to start filing a lawsuit? Or seek assistance first from my local congressman now?

Please advise. Thank you.

Grrrr....

It's good to know that they are planning to radically increase the fees that they charge for these "services". In real life, I'd be asking for them to refund a little of what they are charging.

I have no idea what you can do now. You might try asking your congressman's aid something like "hey, I got this letter, what am I supposed to do now?" The congressman is probably none too happy that his constituents have been singled out for crappy service.

I would recommend start calling the National Helpdesk (the 800 number on your receipt notice) almost on a weekly basis. Escalations through this channel have helped both mine and my spouse' application process. You can also take Infopass - but they don't typically escalate - just provide information. I would imagine, you best bet would be to call the helpdesk number and talk to one of the customer service reps.

Also takadigi,

Infopass only starts becoming relevant after the case file has been transferred to the local DO. Calling the 800 number and the congressman are the best options.

FP delay for me too

My PD is 01/12/2007. I haven't received my fingerprint notice still. I called help desk last week and they have created a request to VSC and was told it should be resolved in 45 days. I am from Connecticut and VSC is the processing center.

Can anybody please provide me a good advice what to do now ?

When I applied in Jan for N-400, my criminal case (minor domestic violence) was pending. Now it is completely disposed without any conviction.

Important answer for you.
I just called national help desk today about my fingerprinting notice delay (waiting more than 4 months). First level rep. gave me the same story as web site, but I asked for more details and was transferred to second level rep. He have me more information. My receipt date was in Jan 2007 and they tried to deliver the fingerprint notice in Feb. Since there was NO NAME on my mailbox, it was undeliverable! Anyway, I can expect it in the next 30 days since the request had been created already.

So guys, please put your name on the mailbox.

Thanks

Many thanks to everyone for your input. I do not understand; however, what CTN400 meant by putting my name on the mailbox. As far as I am concerned, all my address and information are current. Please clarify. Thank you!

OOPS! I'm not sure how this got posted into this thread - I was reading the "rate increase" thread when I wrote it. Anyways, this folks still **** me off.

Andrew, it may not be your situation. But when I called USCIS after waiting 4 months for FP notice, I was told my FP notice couldn't be delivered since there was no name on my mail box. With USCIS, my name and address is also up to date. We need to put our name sticker on the mail box. Still they delivered receipt notice properly without name sticker on the mailbox.

You contact 1(800) number and escalate to 2nd level officer to get clear reason of your case. First level officer is total crap.
